Dr. A. C. Sarma Sports Promotion Award.
Dr. Ananda Chandra Sarma was a sportsman and a great sports enthusiast. He played both Football and Cricket at the first-class level.
In cricket, he represented Assam in "Ranji Trophy Cricket" in 1955-56 and 1956-57; Gauhati University Cricket Team in "Rohinton Baria Trophy" in 1957.
In football, he represented Gauhati University Football Team in the "Inter-University Football Tournament" in 1954 and 1955.
He was a member of the "Independence Day Cup" winning Tarun Assam Club football team in 1953.
While in the Assam Medical College he was a member of the championship trophy-winning team for both Football & Cricket.
Read More...To treasure the memories of Dr. Ananda Chandra Sarma, the family in consultation with Tezpur District Sports Association has decided to form a trust by which financial assistance will be given to budding and needy sportsperson or sportspersons of the district every year. However, since the trust is not equipped to choose the right person for the award, Tezpur District Sports Association chooses sportsperson or sportspersons annually for the award.
(a) The person will be a promising sport-person of an Olympic Sport, who has played at least district level at any age group;
(b) The selection committee should be convinced that the person requires the funds for better performance in the sports and shall utilize the funds for good purposes.
